Post your obscure confessions

Nobody is ever really happy for someone else. On rare occasions a good friend or family member might be genuinely happy for you, but more often than not it’s just a bunch of resentment and jealousy.
If someone surrounds themselves with genuine Christians, they will receive greater support from their peers.

How does one define "genuine Christian?"

How does one define "genuine Christian?"
I'll use Christ's words to answer that.

Matthew 7:15-20
Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

Cool.

Matthew 19:21-24

21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.
24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

I agree that there is a load of resentment and jealousy in this world, but I disagree with the notion that nobody is every really happy for someone else.

I'm often happy for other people, even strangers.

Cool.

Right, because the first commandment is "you shall have no other gods before me" and the acquisition & retention of wealth is a false god to the wealthy the vast majority of the time.

Better to be poor than be a fat man in the eye of a needle.

You sound like a socialist.

Matthew 22:21 "give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s."

Didn't Mr. Garrison already show us how that works out?

Whenever a recipe calls for thyme, I substitute it with rosemary.

Fuck thyme.

I tell folks about this simple lesson all the time about spices.

If you don't like the taste of it don't add it to your dish because it won't taste any better or different after it's cooked.

Wines, sherries, spices, or any other seasoning should be something you like the taste of before it is added. If you've never tasted it before don't add it...just skip it entirely.

I’ve never seen any of The Godfather movies.
That was me too until about a year ago. I've never had much interest in mob dramas. They happened to be available on a streaming service so I figured "I guess I'll see what all the fuss is about" as parts I and II are widely considered amongst the greatest movies of all time. Ultimately, I was glad I watched them - primarily for the culture context. They're not movies I liked enough to re-watch a bunch of times, though; once was good enough for me.
